A brief History

The School was established in 1921 under the aegis of Jatiya Siksha Parishad (National Council of Education (Bengal)) to impart education with national thought and sentiment with a view to promote post First World War independence struggle. Founder Sri Radhashyam Singha was a close associate of Desbandhu Chittaranjan Das who laid the foundation stone of the school building and donated Rs.1000/-.It was first upgraded to KASBA CHITTARANJAN HIGH SCHOOL, recognized by CU, in 1934 and later upgraded to a multipurpose Higher Secondary School in 1958.Sri Prabhas Chandra Ghosh, the founder Head master (from 1934 to 1962) was a legendary figure. It was a renowned school with excellent track record of imparting quality education, in South Kolkata till mid seventies. It produced a galaxy of eminent scholars, who had not only excelleed in their profession in India and abroad, but also played a vital role in the service of the people of our country.

During this period of mid seventees to 2003, the school was managed by an adhoc committee due to legal problems. That was the period, during which the quality of the school was degraded in every aspect.
In 2000 the teaches and ex-students (members of PRAKTANI) took initiative to get rid of all hurdles. New Managing committee took charge in May, 2003. And that was the starting point of a new era, a new struggle started, and a struggle to help the school in regaining its old glory.
